The Perham Stingers picked up their first doubleheader sweep of the year last week with a pair of wins at East Grand Forks.
Post 4020 pounded out 15 hits in game one as they went on to a 16-2 win. Five different players had at least two hits with nine different players getting at least one hit. Richard Hoffman led the way with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. David Altstadt and T.J. Studer were both 2-for-4 with two RBI. Alex DeConcini was 2-for-2 with two runs driven in. Desmine Duffy and Tony Adams also had a pair of RBI each.
Hoffman was strong on the mound as well, picking up the win by scattering eight hits over six innings without allowing an earned run.
The Stingers improved to 7-4 with a 10-7 win in game two. Perham scored five runs in the first inning and were up 7-3 after two innings, but EGF rallied to tie the game after four complete. Perham scored three times in the fifth to put the game away.
DeConcini was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. He also picked up the win with 3 2/3 innings of relief work for starter David Stoll. Duffy also had three hits with a triple and Mac Link was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
On Monday and Tuesday, the Stingers played in the St. Cloud Tournament, but final scores were not available when EOT Illustrated went to press with early deadlines because of the July 4th holiday.
VFW Post 4020 will travel to Bemidji today (July 2) for a pair of games before returning home to take on Detroit Lakes at Krueger Field on July 7.
