Funeral services will be held for Vicky Schermerhorn, 61, of New York Mills, on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in New York Mills with Reverend Muriel Hachfeld officiating. The hymns will be sung by the congregation, accompanied by Lou Legried. The pallbearers will be: Riley Schermerhorn, Tucker Schermerhorn, Izak Schermerhorn, Logan Milligan, Zachary Milligan and Darin Bauck. Vicky will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New York Mills.
Vicky Rae Finberg was born on April 21, 1953 in Wadena, Minn. Her parents were the late Kenneth and Lorraine (Johnson) Finberg. She attended New York Mills High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. Vicky met Eugene Schermerhorn showing Jersey cattle against each other at the East Otter Tail County Fair. On July 29, 1972 Vicky and Gene were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Dent, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two children. Vicky was employed at Barrel O' Fun for 28 years. She enjoyed attending many shows where her children and grandchildren would show sheep, beef and hogs over the years at the East Otter Tail County Fair, the Minnesota State Fair and Junior Shows. Vicky and Gene traveled to Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park every May and then again in September for the Buffalo Round Up. She also enjoyed driving her golf cart around the farm helping do chores.
On July 22, 2014 Vicky passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family at 61 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Vicky is preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Allen Schermerhorn; nephew, Craig Schermerhorn; sister-in-law, Bonnie Beaman; brother, Robert Finberg; and uncle, Kenneth W. Johnson.
Vicky is survived by her husband, Eugene Schermerhorn; daughter, Julie (Josh Johnson) Schermerhorn; son, Brian (Tina) Schermerhorn; grandchildren: Riley and Tucker Schermerhorn; Izak Schermerhorn, Logan and Zachary Milligan; mother-in-law, Elaine Schermerhorn; brother, Terry (Sheila) Finberg; sister, Connie Burritt; brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry (Joanne) Schermerhorn; Nancy (Ron) Kratzke; Randy (Karla) Schermerhorn; and Janelle (Neil) Dow; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
In lieu of thank you notes, a donation will be made to NYM FFA chapter in Vicky's memory.
