PERHAM — Prior to Tuesday’s season opener at Perham the Bemidji High School volleyball players set a goal of concentrating on their communication. In the first game the Lumberjacks accomplished that goal and cruised to a 25-16 victory.

They also posted a 25-22 win in the second game but Perham rallied with victories in the third and fourth games to force a fifth set.

“In that fifth game we communicated better,” said BHS coach Teresa Colligan. “And in the fifth game we dominated.”

The Jacks claimed the decisive set 15-7 and the game capped a five-set victory in the season opener.

“It was a good effort and everybody contributed,” Colligan said.

“Perham is a good team and in the third and fourth games they attacked us aggressively and defensively we played a bit more tentatively. But I give the girls credit for coming back in the fifth game and taking control.”

Brylee Colligan paced the offense with 13 kills and Emily Falldorf had 12. Alexa Greendahl added eight.

Falldorf also had seven blocks and Karlee Leif contributed four aces. Greendahl dished 28 assists and Leif and Colligan each finished with 36 digs.

Maria Rutten and Ella Von Ruden led Perham in kills with 23 and 14, respectively. Amy Scheidecker had 35 digs and Rutten had 28.
