The Eagles opened up play with a testy rematch against Barnesville. The Trojans had swept the Eagles 3-0 by wide-margined scores in Mills last Tuesday.

Barnesville defeated the Eagles again, 2-0, by scores of 25-16 and 25-20.

"(We) started out still asleep on the bus down 13-1 and then rallied back to get something going," Head Coach Angela Paavola said.

Paavola was pleased with the effort in comparison to Tuesday's mismatch stating, "We played great against them."

The Eagles bounced back in their second match defeating Norman County West by matching scores of 25-20.

"We did not play as well as versus Barnesville, but held out for the win," Paavola said.

The third match featured Kittson County Central. Both teams split the two sets played. KCC won the first 25-19. The Eagles won the second 25-20.

New York Mills advanced to the silver division, after pool play, to face Verndale. Both teams will square off this Thursday, Sept. 27 on Parent's Night in New York Mills.

The Eagles throttled the Pirates 25-9 in the first set, rallied back well taking game two 25-16.

The deciding third game was point-for-point the entire game.

"We got breaks; they got breaks; missed serves on both sides, defensive holes...etc.," Paavola said.

The Pirates held the Eagles off for an exciting 18-16 victory.

Verndale went on to beat KCC in the final game and won the silver division.

Statistically, the Eagles excelled from the service line hitting 191 of 205 serves, a 93 percent clip, totaling 20 free points by way of aces.

Tori Kempenich led the team with six.
