Volleyball: Jackets ranked No. 1 in season's first QRF
PERHAM — A month into the fall sports season, Perham volleyball is the talk of the town.
While Perham is garnering votes in the most recent state volleyball poll, the Yellowackets leaped straight to the top ranking in the first Class 2A Quality Results Forumula (QRF) of the season.
Perham improved to 14-1 on the season after Tuesday night’s shutout victory over Hawley 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-20). The match was the first of three meetings between the Nuggets and Jackets, the first being a non-conference contest, so despite the result both teams still remain tied at 2-0 in the Heart O' Lakes.
Tina Scheidecker continues to be an offensive force as she has for the entire season. Scheidecker had the first set-clinching kill against Hawley and put the match away for Perham’s final point in set three. Scheidecker had 10 kills. Hope Slettebak had seven.
Scheidecker also led in digs with 25. Tina Schmitz had 19.
Allie Christenson did her thing controlling ball movement and aiding Perham hitters with slicing through the Nuggets’ defense. Christenson had 31 assists.
The victory also came one day after Perham completed the season sweep of Detroit Lakes on the road Monday night.
Both matches were not close allowing Perham to substitute a number of bench players in the game.
Perham served 93 percent as a team and have used the serve as a strong weapon this season.
“I was exceptionally pleased with our serving,” Head Coach Eryn Moser said. “We have really started to focus on serving to specific spots to confuse, frustrate the other side and take them out of their offense. We served very well last night.”
Perham returns to conference action after a week break next Thursday, Sept. 24 at home versus a struggling Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (4-5) team. The Rebels have lost three of four heading into tonight’s match at Breckenridge (5-1), including a 3-0 sweep to Hawley.
Breckenridge’s only loss so far is to Perham.
Perham’s only loss came to Kasson-Mantorville. The KoMets are ranked No. 2 in the QRF behind the Yellowjackets.
