Volleyball: Lockhart, Christenson lead Perham past Frazee

PERHAM -- Senior Miranda Lockhart had 18 kills and junior Allie Christenson had a big night with 40 assists, both career highs, as the Yellowjackets defeated Frazee Thursday on Cancer Awareness.

Perham won 3-1 after dropping the first set 23-25, going on to sweep the next three: 25-14, 25-21, 25-19.

Frazee got off to a slow start, but Perham failed to capitalize on a lead three points from taking the set. The Hornet comeback was complete after Frazee scored 10 of the final 11 points.

Perham stormed back to win the second set easily by 11 points and led the entirety of the third set en route to a four-point victory and a set away from the match.

Both teams duked it out until crunch time in the fourth set where Perham pulled away to seal the match with a 25-19 victory.

Perham improves to 2-2 in Heart O' Lakes Conference play and 6-11 overall.

Freshman Maria Rutten had 13 kills and Tina Scheidecker added 11 in a strong net effort from the Jackets.

Scheidecker added 23 digs and a block.

Alexis Tappe led the Hornets with 18 kills, four blocks and nine digs.

Taylor Tappe had 11 digs for Frazee.

The Hornets are winless in the conference but 9-6 overall.

Perham faces No. 9-2A Wadena-Deer Creek (10-4) next Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Perham.
