PERHAM -- The Yellowjackets' volleyball team lost to Detroit Lakes for the second time this season, both times, taking an early lead, only to watch the match slip away.

A close first set when Perham's way as the Jackets put together a nice run to win 25-17.

The turning point in the match was late in set two when leading 19-18, a missed serve led to three Laker points, including a lengthy volley to put both teams at 21, leading to another tie at 25.

A third missed serve late in the set gave DL a one-point lead, 26-25 and the Lakers scored the final point to win set two 27-25.

"That really hurt us," Perham Head Coach Dan Christenson said. "Any missed serves at that point in the set are huge, but three at the end of set 2? We have to get mentally tougher to make sure we're putting balls in play when it counts."

Another error doomed Perham late in the third set. Serving, down 23-21, a serving rotation violation, serving out of turn, put Detroit Lakes on the hill, 24-21, at set point.

The Lakers scored again to seal the third set 25-21 and took the match with a 25-17 win in set four.

A bright spot for the Jackets was the play of Miranda Lockhart, who had 17 kills and Allie Christenson with 26 assists.

"Those two connected all night long, but it wasn't enough."

Lockhart added four blocks, seven digs and four aces.

As of Tuesday night, Perham will have played a brutal stretch of seven games in six days and have been without starter and junior captain Tina Scheidecker, who has been out with an illness nearly a week.

"Our September schedule is brutal, and when you lose one of your starters to illness, the schedule takes its toll."

The Jackets fall to 6-9 on the season.
