Wadena man charged for Halloween tirade
WADENA -- A Wadena man faces three felony charges in Wadena County District Court after allegedly punching a man in the face, breaking all the windows on his girlfriend's vehicle and threatening to kill her on Halloween night.
Court records said Dustin Paul Kotchen, 24, was at a party with his girlfriend on Halloween when he became upset with her around 11 p.m. and punched an unknown man in the face. Kotchen was kicked out of the party and physically assaulted by some people there. He left the party and called his girlfriend on her cell phone, allegedly threatening to kill her.
Kotchen then used an aluminum baseball bat to smash out the windows of his girlfriend's car, then stashed the bat underneath an abandoned building, court records said. During questioning, Kotchen admitted the incident and told police where to find the bat, which they later recovered for evidence.
Kotchen's girlfriend applied for and was granted a temporary protection order. Kotchen was charged with felony level counts of terroristic threats, domestic assault and first-degree damage to property. His first court appearance was set for Dec. 14.
