Wendell Jenson of Phoenix, AZ, and formerly of the Wadena area, was born on March 16, 1941 to Kenneth and Edna (Sowers) Jenson in Oylen, MN. He passed away, unexpectedly, at the age of 68, on June 27, 2009, on the Alaskan Highway in the Yukon of Canada.
Wendell was united in marriage to Janice Altenbrun on September 5, 1985 in Sisseton, SD. He resided in Minnesota for 66 years, working as a truck driver and mechanic, and will be remembered as the owner of A-1 Service Center west of Wadena. His past two years were spent in Arizona. His interests were motorcycles, NASCAR races, and guns, and he enjoyed drinking coffee while visiting with relatives and friends.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Edna; brothers, Dewey and Norman; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife, Janice, of Phoenix; sons, Kenneth (Pam) Jenson, and Jacob Jenson, both of Wadena; stepsons, Richard (Debbie) Altenbrun of Columbia Heights, Terry (Lorraine) Altenbrun of Phoenix and Larry (Rose) Altenbrun of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Myron (Marcella) Jenson of Pioneer, CA, and Kermit (Margie) Jenson of Wadena; sister, Audrey (Ken) Boggs of Burlington, Ontario, Canada; a special mother-in-law, Phyllis Riediger of Bisbee, ND; sisters-in-law, Sharon Simon of Billings, MT, Carol Berns of Young, AZ, Linda (Ken) Myer of Bottineau, ND, and Claudia Sarkilahti of Coon Rapids; brother-in-law, Arlan Riediger of Gillette, WY; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with Father Donald Wagner as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were Wendell's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will be at a later date.
