Rural Perham murder: Pipe wrench reportedly used in brutal killing of mother, son

Wilma Ann (Marshall) Cowan

Wilma Ann (Marshall) Cowan was born on June 16, 1934 in Cohocton, NY, to William Casper and Sylvia (Pulver) Marshall.

Wilma graduated from Dundee Central School in Dundee, NY, with the class of 1952. She received a bachelor degree at St. Francis College in Joliet, IL. Wilma was employed as a Registered Nurse in New York and Arizona.

On April 29, 1955 Wilma was united in marriage with Harry Joseph Cowan, Sr. in Derry, PA. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Harry passed away in July of 1981.

Wilma enjoyed her occupation as a traveling nurse. She was employed in all but four of the United States and for four years in Saudi Arabia and in Panama during "Just Cause," before retiring in 1999. Wilma also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Since September of 2008, Wilma made her home in rural Perham, MN with her daughter, Kimberly. On June 5, 2009, Wilma passed away at her residence at age 74. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding Wilma in death were her parents; husband, Harry J. Cowan, Sr; son, Arnold Jason Cowan; and sister, Betty Jane Sechrist.

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Ann (Don) Andersen of Perham; two sons, Harry Joseph (Debbie) Cowan, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ and Thomas William Cowan of Ward, AR; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, William E. Marshall of Grand Bay, AL; many other relatives and a host of friends.
