All five students from the Perham-Dent schools who competed in a regional History Day Contest received medals and ribbons.

The awards received at the March 10 event, hosted at Minnesota State University Moorhead included:

Topic - "The Masons, Conflict or Compromise"

---Dalton Dahms, PWMS, Medal Winner and State Qualifier (first year), Individual Junior Exhibit Category

Topic - "The Vietnam War and A Veteran's Story"

---Angie Huck, PHS, Medal Winner and State Qualifier (4th year)

Topic - "Tinker Vs. Des Moines, Iowa: Student Rights on Trial"

---Suanne Coleman, PWMS, Honorable Mention (State qualifier last year), Junior Individual Performance

Topic - "Clara Ueland, Women and Voting Rights"

---Aleina Boyum, PWMS, Honorable Mention, Individual Junior Exhibit

Topic - "American Indian Movement, Siege at Wounded Knee: Conflict or Compromise?"

State qualifying students will be presenting their projects at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, on April 27.

Students also had a guided tour of the Plains Art Museum, examined a special on loan art collection entitled "Window on the West" and identified many interdisciplinary connections between their history projects and works of art. Special thanks to Gina Dahms for assisting with supervision and the day's activities.

The History Day Program has been an academic extension in the Perham-Dent School District for 13 years.
