Wresting: Perham defeats Detroit Lakes 35-27

DETROIT LAKES -- A wrestling match with potential intrigue was decided by a forfeit at 220 pounds by the home Lakers giving Perham a 35-27 victory in Section 8AA wrestling Friday night.

Perham led 29-21 with two matches remaining, but No. 3-2A Nylander was uncontested putting the match out of reach for Laker heavyweight James Huwe.

Huwe pinned Jesse Bucholz at 3:04 to end the match with six meaningless points.

Sam Pirrotta gave Perham the lead for good at 6-5 when he pinned Payton Jackson at 5:07 in the second match of the night at 113 pounds,

Chase Curtis and Colin Neitzke both defeated ranked wrestlers from Detroit Lakes.

Curtis defeated No. 9-2A Luke Payne in an 8-5 decision followed by a 2-0 decision victory by Jacob Guehna over DL's Nathan Francis.

Perham was up 12-5 and their lead stayed within a spread of eight to 14 points the remainder of the way.

Josh Werner, ranked No. 10 at 132 defeated Logan Twig by tech fall at 5:51.

The Lakers' Zach Baker upset No. 9-2A Luke Sailer 14-6.

Neitzke got a big win over No. 7 Parker Jackson at 145 pounds pushing Perham to its largest lead of 14 points 23-9.

DL clawed back to within 11 and eight points after Jarrett Nosal ended a streak of exciting wins for Brady Sazama at 152 pounds. Nosal won by an 8-3 decision.

At 160, Jeff Gailfus defeated Patrick Glynn 8-5 and the Lakers had life down only 23-15 with five matches to go.

William Parks pinned Brandon Dahring at 3:59 to add to Perham's lead and push it back to 14 points 29-15.

The Lakers answered with two consecutive decisions again.

Jason Griego defeated Cole Schmitz 6-5 and Cameron Fritz beat Jesse klatt 7-3 leading up to Nylander's match.

Perham improves to 18-5. DL falls to 14-3.
