Wrestling: Eagles dominate home quadrangular

NEW YORK MILLS -- The New York Mills wrestling team got their season off to a strong start sweeping all three matches at their home opener quadrangular Friday. The Eagles defeated United Clay-Becker 64-15, Staples-Motley 48-6 and Fosston/Bagley 49-24.

113-pound Jeremiah Harper was 3-0 with two pins and a 7-0 decision.

No. 1-ranked 120-pounder Shane Novak did not get a match and had a long evening uncontested with three forfeits.

Austin Haman won by decision three times, once by major, a 10-1 victory over UCB's Jimmy Kohler at 126 pounds.

Andrew Perala scored two wins by fall at 138 pounds.

At 160, Gunner Flynn went undefeated pinning Chance Lefebvre, of UCB, at 0:51 and winning a close 9-7 decision over F/B's Wyatt Lafriniere. Flynn was up 7-2 early and held on for the win. His third match was a forfeit.

Noah Pesola, ranked No. 6 at 182 pounds, won by forfeit, pinned UCB's Alex Lindsay at 3:48 and won a 10-7 decision over Jordan Helman, of Staples-Motley.

At 195, No. 10-ranked Tyler Patron got one match and won a 9-4 decision over Zach Como, of Fosston/Bagley, in a match he controlled from the start.

Max Carlson, the Eagles No. 7-ranked heavyweight had a strong night at the anchor position. Carlson won a major decision, 10-1, over F/B's Luke Juve. Carlson led 2-0 after the first, 5-0 after the second. Against UCB, Carlson pinned Zach Svare at 2:20.
