Wrestling: Hein, Nylander and Sailer lead Perham to second place at Barrel O' Fun Invite

Perham finished in second place to New London-Spicer in the Barrel O' Fun Invitational, held Saturday, in Perham. Jesse Hein, Cody Nylander and Luke Sailer all won their respective weight titles.

Sailer was also named Oustanding Wrestler of the tournament.

Sailer, 12-2 on the season and ranked #10 in the state took the 138-pound title undefeated.

After a first round bye, he won a 6-2 decision over Sauk Centre-Melrose's Tommy Latzka. He shut out Max Pajari, 3-0, in the semifinals and took the championship 10-3 over Parker Jackson, of Detroit Lakes. Jackson has a record of 14-1 this season.

Hein, undefeated this season at 18-0, ranked #3 in Class 2A, won the 285-pound class spending less than two minutes on the mat in three matches.

He won all three of his matches by fall. He put down Moorhead's Brendan Edner in 38 seconds, Randy Smieja of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley-Nevis was finished off in 35 seconds and the final was Hein's fastest pin of the day, 32 seconds, over Mille Lacs' Ben Sam.

Cody Nylander, #4-2A, took the exact same path to the 220-pound title.

He pinned all three of his opponents.

New London-Spicer's Andy McDonnell lasted 51 seconds with Nylander. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley-Nevis ' Nick Fischer made it 48 seconds and Max Carlson, of New York Mills, was runner-up to Nylander, by fall, at 1:34 seconds.

Carlson, 9-7, pinned Moorhead's Grant Lubenow at 1:42 and took down Roseau's Kieran Oksanen at 3:22, to advance to the finals and face Nylander.

NY Mills finished in sixth place in the 10-team field, led by #1-ranked, 113-pounder, Shane Novak.

Novak, 17-1, pinned his first two opponents, Wyatt Hanson, of Moorhead, at 1:12, and Tommy Tellers, United North Central, at 1:38. It took an 8-5 decision in the final over Gabe Foltz, of Detroit Lakes, to take the championship. Foltz has a record of 15-1.

Sam Pirrotta, 11-9, was fourth at 113 pounds. Tellers defeated Pirrotta 5-0 in the third place match.

Perham's Brandon Lueders, 13-5, reached the finals at 126 pounds before losing a close decision, 6-5, to Moorhead's Jacob Rositas.

Other Perham and NY Mills top place finishers, Elliot Werner, 10-9, finished third at 106 pounds. He defeated Jeremiah Harper, of NY Mills, 8-2, by disqualification in the third place match.

Chase Curtis, 10-9, finished third at 120 pounds. Austin Haman, 2-2, finished fifth.

Josh Werner, Perham, finished sixth at 132 pounds. He has a record of 10-5 this season.

Perham's Patrick Glynn, 7-5, was fourth at 145 pounds.

Ty Haverland, of Perham, finished fourth at 152 pounds. His season record is 11-7.

At 170 pounds, Perham's William Parks, 10-9, finished fifth.

182 pounder Noah Pesola, 8-2, of New York Mills was fourth. Garrett Biegler, 9-10, of Perham finished fifth.

Perham's Gio Garcia, 6-14, finished fourth at 195 pounds.
