Wrestling: Novak sets new mark for wins at New York Mills


NEW YORK MILLS -- Shane Novak surpassed his brother Jordan's mark of 171 wins last week to become the all-time winningest wrestler in New York Mills history.


Novak continues to add to the number and scored a pin in the Eagles 53-10 rout of Ottertail Central to move the mark to 176.

The Eagles recorded seven wins by fall upping their season mark in duals to 10-4.

New York Mills is on the road Thursday to face Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus (10-2) at 7:30 p.m. in Pequot Lakes.

Activity Director Matt Radniecki led the pre-match ceremony.

"When you lose, say little; when you win, say less. I think that says a lot about Shane," Radniecki said. "Wrestling is a sport where you can be a giant no matter how big you are. I think that says a lot about the person we're honoring tonight."

Novak won the 113-pound state title in 2012. and has been wrestling at 120 pounds this season, where he is ranked No. 1 in Class A.
