Writing scholarships available
"Writing Through Life, Life Through Writing" is the theme for the second annual Lake Region Writers Network conference. This daylong conference will be held October 2, from 8:50 a.m. to 4 p.m. at M State Fergus Falls, in Legacy Hall.
Due to a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council, LRWN is able to offer 25 registration scholarships to teens age 13 through 19 and 25 scholarships to age 60 and older adults. Applicants must be able to attend the conference on Oct. 2.
Writers applying for the scholarships must reside in the 9-county region of west central Minnesota (Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse and Wilkin counties.) LRWN encourages writers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds to apply.
The decision will be made on September 17, and winners will be notified by e-mail (telephone, if the recipient has no e-mail address.)
One of the goals of the LRWN is to showcase and nurture a lake region voice in the literary arts. This year's conference supports that vision by focusing specifically on encouraging writers on both ends of the age spectrum.
Featured speakers at this year's conference include Mark Vinz--reflective voice of age 60 and over; Lin Enger--writing through the mid years; and Victoria Kasten--writing as a teenager. View a complete listing of the day's events, workshop descriptions, and presenter biographies at www.lakeregionwriters.net.
To obtain a registration scholarship application, visit the Lake Region Writers Network website or email Reba at email@example.com. Applications must be received on or before September 15.
The scholarships and conference were made possible by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC) and funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
