Wrong-way DWI driver arrested near Perham after ‘short pursuit’
A drunk driver caught driving the wrong way down Highway 10 tried to elude an officer and spurred a short chase near Perham on Monday.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., the Perham Police Department responded to a call about a truck driving east in the west-bound lane of Highway 10 near its intersection with Highway 228, Perham Police Chief Jason Hoaby said.
An officer stopped the truck just west of the Highway 78 overpass in Perham. As the officer was approaching the truck, the driver maneuvered around the officer’s squad car and fled down the highway, still driving the wrong way.
According to Hoaby, a “short pursuit” followed, with speeds reaching about 70 miles per hour. The driver of the truck eventually slowed to a stop, at which point he was taken out of the vehicle and a sobriety test was administered.
The driver, a 31-year-old male whose name was not released, was arrested and charged with second degree DWI and taken to a detox facility in Fergus Falls.
