Yard waste pick-up resumes
Perham Minnesota 222 2nd Avenue SE 56573

As the weather warms and spring yard work begins, Perham residents can once again take advantage of the city’s yard waste pick-up program and compost site.

Now through the end of October, residents may have their grass clippings and leaves picked up once a month. Brush, bundled and cut to 4 feet or shorter, will be accepted on the last Wednesday of every month.

Yard waste for pickup should be left in a container on the curb early Wednesday morning. If using a bag to hold leaves, city officials ask that a rock or other heavy object be left nearby to prevent the bag from blowing away once emptied.

Another option Perham residents have for disposing of plant matter is the city compost site, which is located south of town on Minnesota Street. Directions are on the city’s website.

Grass clippings, leaves and branches may be dropped off at the compost site on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. until dusk and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to dusk. No stumps are accepted for composting and branches should be kept apart from leaves and lawn clippings.

Perham’s Public Works Director, Merle Meece, said trash will not be accepted at the compost drop-off. If garbage becomes a problem, he said, the composting program could be discontinued.

Finished compost for gardening is available at the Public Works building on County Highway 51.
