It was a clean sweep for the Perham Yellowjackets girls golf team as they took home another Heart O' Lakes Conference championship Tuesday, at Wildflower Golf Course, in Detroit Lakes.

The win comes as no surprise as the Yellowjackets dominated conference meets this season thanks to Holly Karkela, the conference's most valuable player, and Kaylan Huber, along with three Yellowjackets underclassmen, who made big leaps and improved throughout the season.

The senior duo of Karkela and Huber led the conference in scoring average. Karkela was tops with 40.14 and Huber second at 42.71.

In all, five Yellowjackets scored in the top 15 in conference scoring average earning each player all-conference honors.

Rachel Nelson was sixth averaging 46.14. Destiny Mitchell made a steady climb from outside the top 15 early in the season to finish 11th best scoring an average of 47.42 strokes. Ali Smith was next in 12th averaging 47.85.

Perham took the conference championship at Wildflower Golf Course by an eight stroke advantage shooting a combined score of 181. Barnesville finished second with 189. Barnesville's finish was a bit of surprise, as Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal had made a habit of finishing runners-up to the front running Yellowjackets most of the season.

Karkela was best on the front nine shooting a 41. Huber had low score on the back nine with a 43. Karkela was as stroke back at 44, which was good for another title in her incredible run this season. She was victorious in each conference meet during the season.

The conference standings after all meets was a runaway for the Yellowjackets, scoring a lowest possible nine points. Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal was second a distant 13 points back with 22. Pelican Rapids was third and Barnesville fourth.

Perham returns to Wildflower Golf Course today, (Thursday, May 26), to compete in the Section 8AA Sub-Section Tournament.
