Yellowjackets take two from Patriots
The Perham girls softball team ended a three-game losing skid and upped their mark to 5-4 with a doubleheader sweep of Pequot Lakes.
The Yellowjackets wore out the base paths scoring 28 runs in the two games winning 14-8 and 14-6.
"Our bats were definitely back in action on Tuesday, and that was good to see because our pitchers struggled a bit," Head Coach Jill Walter said.
Number one starter Kristina Januszewski, who has been the go to pitcher on Walter's staff, walked 13 batters.
"It was good to see that our team could pick up one side of the game when another side of the game needed some help," she said.
At the midway point of the season, the Yellowjackets head into a stretch of conference twin bills, aside from a lone game against Frazee in late May.
"I am pleased to see these pieces of our team coming together with some big doubleheaders in the next weeks," Walter said.
Natalie Wierbos led Perham going 3-5 with two runs and two RBI. Etta Scheidecker went 2-4, with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Steph Miller was her usual self at the plate going 2-3 with two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored.
Wierbos was 3-4 in game two to lead all Yellowjacket hitters. She crossed the plate three times. Jessica Speicher went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
