Art of the Lakes Studio Tour July 16-18

Could you use an infusion of art and a scenic summer drive through the lakes area at the same time?

The Art of the Lakes Studio Tour 2010 takes place July 16-18. Stretching from Perham to Alexandria, the tour displays some of the most talented artists in the area.

Specializations include painters, potters, quilters and more.

Perham is the first stop with Carrie Scheneck Kelsey, an artisan specializing in quilting. She does long arm quilting for people who make quilt tops. She makes some quilts for sale from king size down to table runners.

From there the road winds to Rush Lake where you can view the works of Sandra Daulton Shaughnessy and Shirlee Aho Daulton.

Sandra's work is ceremoniously functional stoneware and porcelain fired in a soda atmosphere. Shirlee specializes in clay, handmade paper from plants, woodcuts and fish prints. Jewelry and fibers will be for sale. Her artwork uses local plants for paper and fish for printing.

From there, tour goers can venture to the Otter Tail Lakes area to enjoy the works of painters, Sharon Hobart, Grace Haverty, Jean Harney, Laura Sefkow and Jean Harney, jeweler, Laura Sefkow, and quilter/wearable artist Paula Sween.

The tour continues to 14 other artists' studios through West Battle Lake, Lake Christina, Pelican Lake, Lake Ida, and more closer to Alexandria.

The overall trip consists of 19 stops and is marked by signs.

The tour runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, July 16 and 17, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 18. Not all studios are open Sunday.
