NY Mills gears up for 13th Annual Christmas Tree Festival

The city of New York Mills is inviting one and all to "Winter Wonderland," the theme of this year's 13th Annual Christmas Tree Festival.

The event will be held from Friday, Nov. 26 through Dec. 4 and is sponsored by the NY Mills Civic & Commerce Association.

All events are free will admission for the entire festival until Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Santa Anonymous.

Christmas Displays

Throughout the entirety of the festival, visitors will be able to vote on Christmas displays with trees, wreaths and more filling the city hall ballroom.

Viewing and voting of the displays will end at 8 p.m. on the Dec. 4, and silent auction bidding closes at 10 p.m.

Winners of the displays will win "Mills Marks," which can be used as gift certificates in NY Mills. All visitors are eligible to win the Mills Marks and must be present to win.

First through third place will receive $100, $75 and $50.

Festivities begin

On Friday, Nov. 26, the event will begin with cookie decorating sponsored by the Bake Shoppe from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

A drawing will be held at 8 p.m. for the chance to win $100 in Mills Marks. Everyone receives a free ticket but must be present to win.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly will be holding a bake sale and craft sale. Proceeds will go to Santa Anonymous.

A dinner of chili and chowder supper will be held at the Senior Citizen's Center from 4-8 p.m.

Family Day will be held on Nov. 28, complete with a visit from Santa, prizes, make-and-take crafts, sleigh rides with weather permitting. Hot chocolate and apple cider will be served throughout the day.

Mid-Festival events

Events will continue on Thursday, Dec. 2 after three days of tree and display viewing from 12-7 p.m.

New Horizons will be sponsoring Senior Day on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 1-3 p.m. in the City Hall ballroom.

The NY Mills Regional Cultural Center will be holding their silent auction from 6-8 p.m.

Mills Liquors will sponsor a wine tasting event that evening from 6-8 p.m. in the party room of city hall.

Final festivities

The festival will come to a close with the Community Christmas Party sponsored by the NY Mills Lions Club.

Social Hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. with a dance featuring the music group "Sapphire."

"They have a nice variety of music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. We encourage the entire community to attend even if dinner tickets sell out," committee organizer Dolly Tumberg said.

Tickets for dinner are $20 and are available at Hardware Hank's and Farmers & Merchants State Bank in NY Mills.

The dance will be open to the general public at 8 p.m.

"We want everyone to know that this Community Christmas party is open to everyone and not just members of organizations," Tumberg said.

Although there are a limited number of tickets available for the meal, visitors are encouraged to come to the city ballroom for the music and dance, Tumberg said.
