Area Lions prepare to celebrate Mardi Gras

For many around the world, Mardi Gras isn't just one Fat Tuesday out of the year. Rather, it's an entire season, beginning on Epiphany (Jan. 6) and ending the day before Ash Wednesday.

Those in East Otter Tail County have the opportunity to celebrate the carnival season with help from area Lions clubs.

On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Ottertail Lions will celebrate Mardi Gras at the Ottertail Community Center. New Orleans cuisine will be served including catfish, gator, Louisiana gumbo, Bourbon Street meatballs and more.

A buffet will be held from 6-8 p.m. All proceeds go to Lions major causes. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

The Ottertail Community Center is located at 103 Lake Ave. S.

Two weeks later, Lakes Lions/Perham's 10th annual Mardi Gras celebration will be held on Feb. 4 at Mulligan's Pub & Eatery.

A social, dinner and entertainment will be provided by Boudini Magic Comedy Show. In addition, the Lions' Distinguished Service Award will be given out that night to KLN owner, Kenny Nelson, for his contributions to the community. A silent auction, meat raffle and door prizes will also be on hand. Guests have a chance to win a $500 cash prize, 2 1/2 hogs, or one of 10 $50 cash prizes.

Mulligan's is located at 2727 450th St. in Perham.

Tickets are $25 per person. For more information, contact Don or Pat Hendrickx at 218-346-5899 or
