Celtic, big band all coming to Perham in March

A wide variety of music is coming in March to the In Their Own Words (ITOW) Veterans Museum in Perham.

Irish and Celtic band Ring of Kerry will perform on Sunday, March 6 at 7 p.m. This bursting-with-energy music group consists of five musicians, all of whom sing and play several instruments.

Ring of Kerry features Paul Blondell on fiddle, Paul Cotton on bodhran, Paul Imholte on hammered dulcimer, Charlie Roth on vocals and guitar and Karie Oberg on vocals and penny whistle.

A few weeks later on March 26, FM Kicks Big Band will perform. The location hasn't been confirmed yet, but a night of good music is.

The Tribute to the Swing Big Bands Concert includes songs from the bands of: Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw and Count Basie.

In addition to these events, singer/songwriter Larry Long is expected to perform in Perham this spring or early summer. And on June 5 the museum will host a preview of Jasper's Theater.

"I'm also working on some exciting possibilities for summer including a concert by the Air Force Band "Brass in Blue" in August," said ITOW Executive Director Lina Belar.

Also coming up at the ITOW are lectures by Minnesota Book Award Winners and internationally known key-note speakers. Traveling exhibits will include "All Quiet on the Western Front," "The Wartime Escape (of the creators of Curious George)" and much more.

Now in the museum gallery is a featured full-length interview with veteran Donald Simon, a Navy Seabee.

A new exhibit that opened March 1 is called Women in the Military: A Jewish Perspective. The exhibit focuses on the vital role that Jewish women have made to America's war effort throughout history.

The archives of the ITOW Veterans Museum include interviews with other remarkable women veterans. Excerpts from some of these interviews are included in the permanent exhibit gallery. Full-length interviews are available upon request at the front desk.

The ITOW Veterans Museum is located at 805 West Main, Perham. For ticket information call 218-346-7678 or e-mail
