Small town Dent to throw big summer party

FOCUS File The Dent Daze parade will hit the streets of Dent at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9.

While Dent may be a small town, it sure knows how to put on a big celebration.

The theme for the annual Dent Daze events on Saturday, July 9 will be "Gone Fishin'." The day will focus on kids and family with games and events including a beanbag tournament, tractor races, food and plenty of summer family fun.

The day begins with a 5K race, with registration starting at 8 a.m. The race then takes off at 9 a.m. Cost to pre-register is $15 by Monday, June 27, and $20 the day of the race. The kid's 1K fun run, at the same time as the 5K, is free for participants.

The parade begins at 2 p.m., followed by team tug-of-war contests from 3-3:45 p.m.

Other afternoon Dent Daze events include the Methodist Church pie social from 4-6 p.m., kids tractor races from 3-4 p.m., and a beanbag tournament at 5 p.m.

Take a break from the fun and games and bring your appetite to the annual Chicken Stampede sponsored by the Dent Lions. They'll be serving chicken barbeque and all the side dishes from 4 until 6 p.m.

To reach the Chicken Stampede, drive down the hill toward the ball fields; the Lions shelter is on the right. It's called "stampede" for a reason-last year the tasty chicken was served to over 500 people.

To attend Dent Daze, follow Minnesota Highway 108 or County 35 to Dent. After that, no directions are needed because you'll immediately see all the activity.
