Historical society taking step back in time with festival

The East Otter Tail County Historical Society is hosting its annual Heritage Festival on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Pioneer Village. This year marks the 45th for the historical society and the festival.

A flea market and animal swap meet with birds and bunnies will start at 7 a.m. At 10 a.m., the sawmill will begin. At the Westby House people can join in making pickles, washing clothes and butter making, just like the pioneers and early settlers in our area did.

A horseshoe tournament will start at 1 p.m. Bring your kitchen knives to be sharpened on a stone wheel; cost is $1. The Country Store will also be selling ice cream and a tractor parade will go around the grounds in the early afternoon.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a BBQ lunch will be served in the café. A dance will end the evening, with music by the Lakes Country Band in the Grandview Heights Ballroom. Tickets for the dance are $6.

There is no entrance fee, but freewill donations will be accepted. All donations will be used to help restore the buildings, grounds and machinery.

Those interested in displaying an old tractor or being in the parade should contact Jean by Aug. 20 at 218-346-2025 or 218-841-3683.
