Vergas to go completely looney

FOCUS File The Looney Daze parade will hit the streets of Vergas at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Vergas will go completely looney when it celebrates its annual Looney Daze celebration starting today and running through Sunday, Aug. 14.

Plenty of events are scheduled throughout the entire weekend, starting with the Miss Vergas/Princess Altona Pageant tonight at 7 p.m. at the Vergas Community Center.

Friday is dubbed Shop Vergas Day, with area-wide rummage sales and special deals at local businesses taking place all day. A Vergas Idol karaoke competition will get underway later in the evening, with registration at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday will bring a 5K run/walk, with registration at Billy's at 7 a.m., and the run getting started at 8 a.m. A craft fair on Main Street is scheduled to go from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Plenty of games and activities for kids will be held at Loon Field from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A Street Dance is set for 6 p.m. (with a $5 cover charge to get in). The Fat Cats will take the stage at 7 p.m., with The Rude Band to follow at 9 p.m.

A collectible car show will be held on Sunday, starting at 9a.m., and then the Looney Daze Parade will take to the streets at 2 p.m.

Following the parade, the Vergas Fire & Rescue will host water fights, a sure highlight for young and old.
