Wool goes ‘Sheep to Shawl’ at Cultural Center

Local fiber artists Karen Aakre, Joan Ellison, Katy Olson, and Sharon Marquardt will open a show at the Cultural Center. It will be on display from Saturday, March 1 through Saturday, March 15 in the Center’s gallery.

From Sheep to Shawl is an installation of fiber pieces which illustrate the arc of fiber arts from functional to purely visual. These four women have created with fibers for 20 to 30 years. Each has a specialty in the art.

All four women have had their work displayed in museums and galleries around the Upper Midwest.

A reception on March 15 will include a workshop teaching the ancient Norwegian art of “shinfell” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants will create and take home a work of art using  shinfell. This class has a fee, which includes all materials needed to complete a piece.
