New York Mills will host its annual Lund Mania Summer Celebration, complete with its traditional fishing tournament, games, races, a parade and more this Friday, July 12.

The popular “Boatville Drags” will be back for a second summer after kicking off last year to wide acclaim. The “Boatville Drags,” a race between scaled-down Lund pedal boats, will be held outside City Hall from 4-5:30 p.m. Participants will be racing their boats for a chance to win a traveling trophy.

Several other events are planned throughout the day, including a Free Swim Day at the Legried Community Pool from 1-5 p.m., kids’ games behind the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center from 1 p.m. onward, a petting zoo with free pony rides from 4-7 p.m., and a parade at 7 p.m.

Last year’s parade had more than 80 floats, and previous parades have included numerous local bands.

After the parade, the evening will conclude with a street dance featuring 32 Below, a regional band from the Fargo area.

The street dance will have a $5 cover, but all other events will be free to the public.

The fishing tournament will be held on Otter Tail Lake from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Teams will compete in the catch, record and release program for a chance to win one of three Lund boats and a host of other prizes.

Last year’s grand prize – a Lund 1675 Impact SS and Shoreland’r trailer – was valued at more than $20,000.

The Top 10 teams will be announced in front of Guzzler’s restaurant on Otter Tail Lake at 3:30 p.m., but their placement within the Top 10 won’t be announced until a ceremony in front of the New York Mills Fire Hall at 5:30 p.m. Winners will be featured in the parade.
