The 2014 Chamber Leadership Hall of Fame Volunteer Banquet is coming up next Thursday, April 24, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The banquet will be held at Wild Oaks, at the Perham Lakeside Golf Course, starting with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30, with the awards program beginning at 7:15.

Cost is $25, and includes a sit-down meal of chicken or steak. Pre-registration is encouraged. The doors will be opened for free admission after the meal for those who wish to attend the awards program only.

For tickets, call the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce at 346-7710.

Award recipients have been selected by the Chamber for three different leadership awards.

They include:

-Volunteer of the Year, Cindy Olson.

Olson is being presented this award for her volunteer work with the Community Outreach Ministry, which she has coordinated for the past 13 years, in conjunction with Calvary Lutheran Church.  The ministry is designed to help people in need find food, clothing, furniture and household items.

The seed for the ministry was planted years ago, while Olson was making a home visit for a child with special needs. She saw that the child’s family had basically no furniture, so she scrounged some up, and the mission has grown from there. It’s coordinated with local churches, social agencies, Rewind, Someplace Safe and other agencies. The outreach has touched hundreds of families over the years.

-Hall of Fame Award, Lisa Peterson.

Peterson is being recognized for her work with the local Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.  The relay was initiated in Perham many years ago by Peterson’s parents, Ron and Dee Anderson, and Peterson has stepped to the forefront; she has served as chairperson of Relay for Life in recent years. The event continues to be very robust – a gathering to honor cancer survivors and to raise funds for continued cancer research.

-Leadership Award, Doug and Sue Huebsch.

This award is being presented to the Huebsches for their involvement in several different ventures and organizations. They are the owners or co-owners of New Life Farms, The Wild Goose and the Goose Gang. As such, both are highly involved in the Perham area business community. Additionally, both are involved in public service, with Sue serving on the school board for the past three years, and Doug on Otter Tail County Board of Commissioners for the past seven years.
