Lakes Area Home and Cabin Show starts Friday
Learn more about home building, landscaping, decorating, outdoor sports and more — all from the local pros who know best — at this year's Lakes Area Home and Cabin Show.
Happening at the Perham Area Community Center on Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11, the show will feature more than 100 informational booths and vendors, games and giveaways, activities for kids, concessions, live broadcasts by the local radio station, fishing seminars, dance and taekwondo demonstrations, and more.
The show will run Friday evening, from 3-8 p.m., and all day Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Admission is free, and free parking is available at and around the community center.
Presented annually by the Perham Area Chamber of Commerce, the show is sponsored by a number of local businesses and organizations.
Dan Schroeder, executive director of the chamber, said the vendor spots for this year's show filled up faster than ever before.
"The construction/trade world right now is booming," he said. "We're starting to see a lot of new and different vendors in that area."
"There'll be everything from flooring companies to construction to landscapers; from cars to docks and boats to fireplaces," Schroeder added. "I think it'll be a nice variety of home and cabin-type vendors. You can even come down and bring your architectural plans and get bids, if you want."
More information on the show's scheduled events is below, as well as online at www.perham.com.
Doors will open at 3 p.m., with vendors, food and giveaways at the community center until 8.
Live entertainment and beer and wine sampling will be going on at The Cactus from 7 p.m. until close. Perham pianist and singer, Patrick Murphy, will perform. The cost to attend is $5 with proof of attendance at the Lakes Area Home and Cabin Show, or $10 otherwise.
A pancake breakfast by the Perham Masonic Lodge will kick things off, starting as soon as the doors open, at 8 a.m., and served until 11.
Hoot's Sports will be sponsoring fishing seminars at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
For the kids, there'll be face painting and bird house building from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A craft corner will be open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with crafts led by Perham art teacher Lauren Hanson.
Mid-Minnesota Tae Kwon Do will offer demonstrations at noon, followed by a Northern Lights Dance Academy performance at 1 p.m.
As always, the popular Taste of Perham food sampling booth will be set up in the lower gym. Smoked pork sandwiches and other foods and beverages will be sold by the local Lions clubs.
There will also be chances to win $100 gift certificates to Lakeside Tap, The Cactus, Zorbaz on Little Pine Lake and Brew Ales and Eats. Drawings will be held at noon and 3 p.m. Saturday and 6 and 8 p.m. Friday.
Lions, Leo clubs give back to community
The Perham Lions and Leos clubs will be serving food and refreshments at the Home and Cabin Show again this year. On the menu will be pulled pork sandwiches, Taco in a Bag, coleslaw, milkshakes, chips, cookies and pop.
One hundred percent of club profits are given back to the community. The Lions Club gives back in many ways, including donations to the Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other causes. The club also provides eyeglasses and hearing aids to children and others in need.
The Leo Club is the youth branch of the Lions, consisting of kids in fifth through 12th grades. The Perham club's latest donation was made to the backpack program, which provides nutritious food each Friday for children who may not otherwise have access to enough food for the weekend.
