Enjoy family-friendly skiing on candlelit trails at Glendalough State Park
6 PM to 9 PM
Glendalough State Park
Ski one-and-a-half miles of flat, lighted and groomed cross-country ski trails, then warm up with some hot cider and a s?more by the fire in the Trail Center. Cross-country skis in all sizes can be rented at the park if you don?t have your own ($10/day for skis, boots, and poles). Vehicle permits, ski passes, and rental equipment will all be available at the Trail Center, so visitors should meet there when they arrive.
In addition to seeing the beauty of the moonlight on the forest floor, observant visitors might catch a glimpse of deer, coyotes, ducks, and swans. Those who listen carefully might also hear barred owls at night, along with the sound of the cold crackling in the trees and the swish of skis on the trail.
The event itself is free, but a state park vehicle permit ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit) is required to enter all Minnesota state parks. Before skiers ages 16 and up hit the trails, they will also need a Minnesota Ski Pass ($5 for the day).
From the town of Battle Lake, go 1.5 miles north on State Hwy. #78 and 1.8 miles east on Ottertail Co. Hwy #16 to the park entrance.
