Airman dead after shooting at Grand Forks Air Force Base

A male airman is dead after a “shooting incident” late Sunday night at Grand Forks Air Force Base, said Staff Sgt. Susan Davis Monday.

There is no threat to public safety or search for any suspect, said Davis, a spokeswoman for the 319th Air Base Wing which has about 1,200 airmen, males and females, stationed at the base 15 miles west of Grand Forks.

Davis said she can’t comment on whether anyone was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, or if it appears to be self-inflicted, until more investigation was completed.

A spokeswoman at the Grand Forks County jail said no one from the base was booked in since Sunday night.

The name and rank of the deceased man was not being released this morning, Davis said, but more details may be announced later today.

Davis said the base was not locked down and normal operations are underway at the base, which now involves unmanned aircraft systems.
