Gas main hit at Tuffy’s site

A four-inch gas main was struck by construction workers at the Tuffy’s Pet Food expansion site at about 2:30 p.m. last Thursday afternoon.

Perham City Manager Kelcey Klemm said no one was injured and that the event was being investigated as an accident.

Public Works Director Merle Meece was not available for comment before press time on Tuesday.

“It’s my understanding that (gas) line was never located,” said Klemm.

Other portions of the construction site had been checked and marked for underground utilities, but not the area where the accident occurred.

After the gas line was struck, Klemm said everyone involved responded quickly.

The fire department was called, the ruptured line was “pinched off” and a crew from Arvig helped with the repair. Perham Police and other first responders were on hand to control traffic and provide support.

Repair costs had not yet been given to the city at press time.
