Motorcyclist injured near Lake Lizzie
A 19-year-old motorcycle driver from Fargo sustained injuries in an accident at 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 29 near Lake Lizzie, northeast of Pelican Rapids.
"The injuries were non-life threatening," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke. The injury was sustained by M. Kirk Cossette.
"The cyclist was eastbound when he lost control. The bike caught the edge of the roadway, causing the cycle to go airborn," said Van Dyke.
Cossette was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Detroit Lakes.
A resident of Dalton reported that someone stole his checkbook and wrote out two checks totaling $421. The local bank has been contacted.
The incident was reported to sheriff deputies on Aug. 28.
A bicycle, speakers, Honda generator and other items were taken from a residence on Highway 106, north of the Deer Creek. The incident was reported on Aug. 28.
A burglary in progress was reported at Tee Lake Road, northwest of Vergas. The owner walked in and surprised the burglar who then escaped through a window on Aug. 29.
Nothing was missing. A t-shirt and axe handle were collected as evidence.
Wood, chain and lock were stolen at a residence on Highway 210 near Clitherall. The complainant, who reported the incident on Aug. 28, had previously removed two downed trees following a storm.
Lack of detox results in long-distance transfers
The closing of the detox center in northwest Fergus Falls has resulted in more long-distance transfers, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office.
A case in point is a resident who was evaluated August 28 at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls.
After medical clearance, the individual was taken to Project Turnabout at Granite Falls, southwest of Willmar. Included are men's and women's units for alcohol and drug recovery.
