County board takes look at long-range planning
County Public Works Director Rick West discussed with county board members a proposal for long-range planning in coordination with SRF Consulting Group, Inc.
Discussion took place regarding changes in the contract with SRF that would facilitate the scope of long-range planning in Otter Tail County to align with priorities identified by county residents.
The long-range plan will likely include transportation, tourism, economic development, natural resources, farmland preservation, protection of lakes and waterways, housing, public health, safety, the betterment of Otter Tail County townships and communities and other issues.
A motion by County Commissioner Wayne Johnson of Pelican Rapids and seconded by Commissioner Lee Rogness of Fergus Falls was unanimously carried.
This action by the five-person county board of commissioners calls for SRF Consulting Group to revise the agreement for professional services for Otter Tail County's Strategic Long-Range Planning.
"We are pleased to be working with Twin Cities-based SRF which is an outstanding consulting firm with planning, engineering and design services," says Nick Leonard, Otter Tail County's director of communications and external relations.
West points to the expertise of SRF in evaluating data and its organization and management skills.
"Other counties in Minnesota also are looking into long-range planning and at the same time are seeking public input," said West.
He said public participation will help ensure that Otter Tail County's long-range plan accurately reflects the vision and goals of county residents and businesses.
"This new long-range plan will build on previous and successful planning by Otter Tail County commissioners, in association with county employees and county residents," said West.
