Virgil Leslie Kinnunen

Virgil Leslie Kinnunen, 75, of Menahga, formerly of Mounds View, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 in Little Falls.

He was born to Hugo and Ruby (Flowers) Kinnunen on Jan. 23, 1933 in Wadena County.

He served for four years in the U.S. Air Force. He married Clara Daigle, of Cloquet, on April 27, 1957. They had four children. He worked at Trailmobile as a trailer mechanic and he was a member of the union.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Menahga. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was active in Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post 6206 in Menahga.

He is survived by his wife; four children: Cathy, of Edina, Marie (Rick Olson) Windmeir, of Forest Lake, Leslie, of Columbia Heights, and Kevin (Lisa Peterson Kinnunen), of Ham Lake; two sisters: Ethel (Ralph Cox) Tapio, of Menahga, and Ellen (Al) Yrjo, of Menahga; a brother, Richard, of Debs; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Casket bearers: David Tapio, David Windmeir, Robert Rogers Jr., Richard Olson III, Zachary Kinnunen and Brian Daniels.

Honorary casket bearers: Menahga Color Guard and DAV Chapter 38 of Park Rapids.

Funeral service: Monday, Jan. 12 at First English Lutheran Church in Menahga, with Pastor Steven A. Bruer officiating. Military honors were provided by Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post 6206 of Menahga.

Interment: Menahga City Cemetery.
