Ruth Aliina Olson

Ruth Aliina Olson, 84, of Park Rapids, died Saturday, July 4, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services.

She was born in Wadena County April 24, 1925 to Olaf and Alina (Wiitasalo) Liimatta. She attended #28 Country School in Wadena County through the eighth grade and graduated from Menahga High School in 1942. Following graduation, she worked at the defense plant in Minneapolis for two years and returned to Menahga.

She married Ansel Olson on Oct. 25, 1947. Ruth was a homemaker and worked on the family farm while the children were growing. Later, she worked at Howie's Clothing in Menahga. She worked in the laundry department of Green Pine Acres Nursing Home for 12 years before retiring.

She is survived by her husband; six children: Cartlotta (Donald) Stomberg, of Minneapolis, Ronald (Elizabeth Carlson), of Menahga, Brenda (Glenn) Pederson, of Oylen, Leland, of Menahga, Tamara (Lon) Schaffer, of Lamoure, N.D., and Rhonda (Jim) Meer, of Wilmar; a special niece, Linda Walz, of Rice; two sisters: Arlene Rasmussen, of Brooklyn Center, and Bonnie Kohley, of Greenville, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Donald; four brothers: Fritz, Clinton, Cliff and Donald; and a sister, Pearl.

Honorary casket bearers: Daniel Leckner, Dustin Olson, Thomas, Charles, Aliina and Grace Meer, and Diana Jettmann.

Casket bearers: Jeremy and Stephen Stomberg, Ryan and Rory Lehner, Marc Olson, and Nathanial, Morgan and Nicholas Quinn.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), July 8 at Laestadian Lutheran Church in Menahga, with Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. Organist will be Mary Hanninen. Soloists will be Mary Hanninen, who will sing "Amazing Grace" and Nita Steinbrecher, who will sing "My Need." Congregational hymn will be "The Old Rugged Cross."

Interment: Menahga City Cemetery in Menahga.
