Township historians will share stories in Ottertail April 22

Everyone is welcome to attend the annual Township Historian Meeting on Tuesday, April 22, at the Ottertail Community Center in Ottertail.

After dinner a discussion will be held on recruiting more township historians and various activities taking place to celebrate Minnesota's 150th anniversary. Immediately following the meeting, Otter Tail County Historical Society Executive Director Chris Schuelke and Curator of Collections Kathy Evavold present the program We Chose Otter Tail County.

The presentation examines why people have come to call Otter Tail County home. Based on the Historical Society's new exhibition, the program focuses on the county's ethnic heritage, colonies and first township settlers. It goes beyond names and dates to include pioneer stories that are poignant, heart warming and gut wrenching. These stories are our heritage and offer insight into the townships and communities that exist today. After the presentation audience members will be asked to share stories on why they chose Otter Tail County.

The evening begins with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Please bring a dish to share. Coffee, lemonade and cookies will be provided.

If you cannot attend the potluck at 6 p.m., stop in for the program beginning at 7 p.m.

The Township Historian Meeting is free and open to the public. Please call Chris or Kathy at 736-6038 with any questions.
