Lori Wheelright offers counseling in Perham area

"It started when I was 5," says Lori Wheelright. "I was helping my friends on the first day of kindergarten and two of them were crying."

From that early moment on, Wheelright knew she wanted to dedicate her life to helping those around her. Once in college, she majored in Psychology, going on to earn her masters degree in Counseling from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

After working as an in-home counselor in Becker County for eight years, Wheelright saw an opportunity to start an independent counseling service, Solutions Counseling, LLC in the Perham area.

The surrounding lakes, good schools, and friendly community attracted Wheelright, her husband Kevin, and their three children to move to the rural Perham area.

As a licensed professional counselor in both the state of Minnesota and North Dakota, Wheelright offers clinical therapy services for individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in situations involving relationships, abuse issues, mood disorders, depression, stress, anxiety, anger management, divorce and/or separation reconciliation, and divorce resolution.

"I think that I'm one of the only [independent clinical therapists] here," Wheelright said of her relocation to the Perham area. "I've had people come all the way from Hawley and Wadena to see me."

Wheelright first started working in Perham a year ago, meeting with people of all ages. She is involved with groups and counseling at Someplace Safe in Perham, a non-profit outreach dedicated to serving victims of domestic violence.

A member of the American Counseling Association, Wheelright's personal mission statement is to "help to meet the mental health needs of individuals and families in a safe and confidential manner."

One of Wheelright's specialties is counseling couples. She explains her approach to helping a couple overcome an issue: "I try to figure out what the issue is, what the solution is, and then I help people to develop solutions to the problem as quickly as possible."

To schedule an appointment, contact Lori Wheelright, MS, LPC toll free at 877-653-8030. A sliding fee scale is available, as are evening appointments. Parenting and couples groups will be offered as the need for them arises.

"Helping people is very rewarding for me," Wheelright says. "I enjoy my job every day."
