Ottertail to spruce up holiday decorations

For a small town, Ottertail has garnered quite the reputation for its winter festivities.

Culminating in the annual Otter Dazzle city celebration and parade, the holiday events draw visitors from an assortment of area communities. Keeping with the spirit of the holidays, the city has always put extra effort into decking the streets with some seasonal décor.

"We're going to go with what we have this year for lights," reported Ottertail city coordinator Lee Sherman at the Nov. 20 city council meeting. However, Sherman brought up the possibility of looking into purchasing new lights to continue the holiday tradition in the future.

With Sherman reporting the covering cracking off of lights and a slew of shortages, he concluded it would be a good idea to replace the failing decorations. After researching costs, Sherman said the price for new lights across Main Street would run about $1,800.

This, noted Sherman, is a conservative estimate, as many retailers offer sales on holiday merchandise. It is likely the city will be able to get the lights for a significantly lower price.

The city council is currently asking that any individuals, businesses, or non-profits interested in contributing to the holiday decoration effort contact the Ottertail city office at 218-367-2250.
