New pharmacist behind the counter at Seip

Mitchell Krog is the new pharmacist in charge at Seip Drug in New York Mills.

After over 20 years working for area pharmacies, along with studying in the seminary, Mitchell Krog came to work for an old college classmate.

Krog recently started working at Seip Drug in New York Mills for owner Nate Seip. The Underwood native graduated in 1982 from pharmacy school with Seip at North Dakota State University.

Following school, Krog worked for 10 years as a drug rep, then worked five years for Pamida in Fergus Falls as a pharmacist. That's where Krog put a little twist in his career path when he attended four years of seminary school at Concordia Theology Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, then served as a pastor in Baxter for two years.

Krog resumed his pharmacy career and worked as a pharmacist at Cub Foods in Baxter and Brainerd. A few conversations with Seip, and thoughts of getting back to this area, eventually led Krog to New York Mills.

"That's when I started thinking about getting close to family again. I was tired of working long days," he said of working in Brainerd/Baxter.

Krog said he talked to Nate this past summer about the possibility of working in New York Mills, then again in the fall. That's where, as Krog puts it, "Nate put the full-court press on." Seip hired Krog to be pharmacist in charge at the New York Mills location. He works Monday through Friday, and every other Saturday.

Part of Seip's full-court press recruiting included offering up his house in Mills for Krog and his family to live. Krog appreciates the hospitality, saying it didn't force him to try and sell his house in Baxter too quickly for the move to Mills.

Krog and his wife Debera have been married 28 years. They have a son Dirk, 20, who is going to school and joined the Air National Guard. Emilie is a 16-year-old junior going to school at New York Mills High School.

Krog said he enjoys New York Mills so far and things are going well since starting at Seip Drug on Dec. 3.

His interests include hunting and fishing, although he says he hasn't had the time to fish the last couple years.
