Lund issued permit for fishing tourney

Staff reports

Over $30,000 in prize money is up for grabs at the Lund Mania Fishing Tournament set for July 3 on Otter Tail Lake.

Lund and the community group helping to organize the event completed the most crucial task in the planning phase this week by obtaining the necessary permit needed to hold the event.

Lund Mania takes place as part of the 125th Anniversary Celebration in New York Mills. The tournament will be held the same day as the parade and street dance.

The tournament is limited to 50 teams competing for over $30,000 in prizes. First place is a Lund 1600 Alaskan Tiller with 40 ELHPT 4 Stroke EFI with Shoreland'r Trailer valued at $16,180. Second place is a Lund WC14 Deluxe with 9.9 ELH 4 Stroke valued at $7,153. Third place is a Lund new WD14 Utility boat & Shoreland'r Trailer valued at $2,118. Places 4 through 10 win donated merchandise valued at over $4,000.

If a tournament official should find that an entrant was fishing in violation of these regulations, that team will be disqualified from the tournament. Only Lund boats are eligible to participate in the Lund Mania Tournament and entrants must follow all state-angling and boating regulations. The tournament will follow the C.R.R. (Catch, Record & Release) format. Fishing hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3.

An official Lund Judge Ruler will be provided to every team. It is the responsibility of the team to bring a digital camera. Tournament officials will obtain all camera cards during the rules meeting on Thursday, July 2. The cards will be returned to each team on Friday, July 3 morning prior to blast off. All teams must take a validation picture with date on Friiday, July 3, prior to blast off.

Entrants will receive the weight of their 6 largest walleye for prizes. Fish cannot be retained or put in the live well. When a fish is caught, the fish will be placed on the official judge ruler by the angler and the spotter will take two pictures of the fish.

The top 10 finishing teams will be notified at weigh-in and will be required to participate in the town parade. The prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the parade, followed by a city street dance.

Fishing legend Al Linder is scheduled to make a special appearance at the tournament.
