The 2009 East Ottertail County Dairy Princess and Dairy Ambassador Banquet was held on March 21, at Perham Lakeside Golf Course.

Two young women were crowned with the title of 2009 East Ottertail County Dairy Princess. Those two girls are Nicole Braith and Stephanie Hendrickx.

Nicole Braith is the daughter of Kevin and Charlene Braith of rural Sebeka. Stephanie Hendrickx is the daughter of Steve and Bonnie Hendrickx of rural New York Mills.

Also crowned was the 2009 Dairy Princess Ambassador, who will act as a junior princess. This year's Dairy Ambassador is Melissa Hendrickx, daughter of Steve and Bonnie Hendrickx of rural New York Mills.

Judging was done by Mindy Haberer and Karen Gorentz. Judging was based on personal interview, a speech, and a mock media interview.

The two princesses have the opportunity to go on to St. Joseph in May to compete to become one of the 12 finalists for the Princess Kay of the Milky Way Competition that is held during the opening of the MN State Fair in August.

The event in May also serves as a training program for the young women, who serve as ambassadors for the state's dairy industry. Dairy Princesses from counties all over the state attend this event. While there, the girls will learn about resources they can access and roles they can play in their local communities to promote dairy. Topics covered include classroom presentations, public speaking, and media interviewing.

Local businesses are encouraged to call Princess Coordinator Jen Schwantes at (218) 346-7414 if they are interested in having a dairy princess/ambassador at any of their events.
