Easter Egg Hunt in Smith Park this Saturday-rain or shine

The Easter Bunny is expected to make an appearance this Saturday in New York Mills for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. The event will take place at Smith Park - rain or shine. Registration is at 12:45 p.m. and the hunt begins at 1 p.m. The hunt is sponsored by the NY Mills Civic & Commerce Association and organized by the Miss NY Mills Royalty. The hunt is open to young children interested in scouring the park for colored eggs in this annual American tradition.

Children are separated into various age groups and sent to search for eggs in different areas of the park.

Here's what some of the Miss NYM participants have to say about the event:

"The Easter Egg Hunt is really fun! Somebody hides the eggs and they you are divided into age groups, and you go and find the Easter eggs. After everybody is done finding Easter eggs, you are all invited to the bowling alley. Normally they have hot chocolate and cookies. They have an Easter bunny there. Hope to see you all there!" - Kyndall Haman, Little Miss NYM

"I love the Easter Egg Hunt. It's always fun, no matter what the weather is like! The best part is that it is for all ages. Even my cousins can come. The Easter Bunny comes too and looks so soft and cuddly." - Sierra Gerber, Little Miss NYM 1st Princess.

"It's really awesome to help out at the Easter Egg Hunt. The New York Mills Royalty get to hide the eggs, sign up the kids and then the best part is watching the kids look for the eggs. I remember going to the Easter Egg Hunt when I was little and it was exciting! It's such an honor to be able to help put the Easter Egg Hunt on now and see how much fun it is for other kids. Hope to see you there on Saturday at Smith Park!" - Heather Weller, Little Miss NYM 2nd Princess.

After the hunt, royalty will take the festivities to Mills Lanes where prizes, awards, and refreshments will take place, along with pictures with the Easter Bunny.

There will also be a coloring contest associated with the event. Ages for the contest are: infants through kindergarten; 1st through 3rd grades; 4th through 6th grades; and 7th grade and up.

The coloring pages will be taken to the school and distributed in the classes. Coloring pages may also be picked up at the following businesses: Mills Lanes, The Bake Shoppe, Seip Drug, Dean's Country Market, and Eagles Cafe. Entrants should take their coloring sheets to one of the participating businesses, where they will be judged and a winner picked from each age group on April 10. The artwork will then be posted in the businesses.
