It took just one inning for Perham to send a message to their first opponent of the season.

In the first game of a season-opening doubleheader against Crosby-Ironton at Krueger Field, Jacket pitcher Nate Schmitz struck out the side in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Perham batted around, scoring six runs. The Jackets would score five more in the fifth to take the first game against the Rangers, 11-1.

Schmitz threw three no-hit innings, striking out seven of the nine batters he faced. Jeremy Lahr struggled in his first inning of work, allowing one run on one hit. But he struck out the final two batters of his first inning of work, then retired the side in this second inning.

The offense, meanwhile, had some trouble after their big first inning, but they came back alive in the fifth. The Jackets scored four of their five runs in the inning with two outs. Lahr capped off the 10-run rule win with a RBI single, scoring Shawn Stafki with the winning run.

The Jackets received another outstanding pitching performance in game two as four pitchers combined for a 1-hit shutout in Perham's 4-0 win.

Taylor Doll started the game and earned the win with three solid innings. Ben Omberg, Tyler Lynne and Shane Miller finishd up.

The Jackets got all the offense they needed in the third. Miller started the inning with an infield single. After stealing second, Brad Ellingson drove him in with a RBI double. Ellingson scored when Anthony Ruther bunted for a hit and the throw to first went wild, allowing Ellingson to come around.

Perham got an insurance run in the fourth on a RBI single by Stafki, scoring Lahr. Lahr drove in the final run of the game in the sixth, scoring Lynne.

Unfamiliar foes

The Jackets will take on an unfamiliar foe this weekend as they travel to Little Falls for a non-conference doubleheader with the Flyers. The first game is scheduled for an 11a.m. start.

Perham will go south again on April 20 to face another team they haven't played in some time, Upsala.

On April 24, the Jackets will return home to take on one of the top team's in Section 8AA, Fergus Falls. First pitch at Krueger Field will be at 5 p.m.
