Murphy wins the MN State Fair-County Fair talent contest

Patrick Murphy performed before 15,000 people on the main stage at the Minnesota State Fair where he won the County Finals talent contest.

As a winner of the East Otter Tail county talent contest - preteen division, in Perham, this past summer, Patrick Murphy qualified to compete at the State Fair September 3-5.

Patrick claimed first place at the Minnesota State Fair County Finals September 4, allowing him to compete at the MSF Open Class Finals in the Grandstand September 5, before an audience of nearly 15,000 people.

"When I walked on to the Grandstand in front of about 15,000 people, I felt kind of nervous but I was ready to play," he said. "When I was playing, I looked out into the crowd but I couldn't see anyone. I felt like I was the only one there until I was done. When I finished playing the crowd was as loud as a Twins game! It was awesome! I loved it!"

Patrick played harmonica, piano and sang Billy Joel's "Piano Man."

Patrick is 12-years-old. He is the son of Betty and Tom Murphy and a seventh grader at Prairie Wind Middle School in Perham.
