Deer hunting season arrives

Firearm deer hunting season opens in the region this weekend, with North Dakota's season starting at noon on Friday and Minnesota's on Saturday morning.

Weather forecasts for the weekend look to be favorable for hunters. Saturday's high is 49 degrees and partly cloudy, and Sunday is forecast to be 54 and also partly cloudy.

Governor Tim Pawlenty will be in Little Falls, starting on Friday, for his eighth annual Governor's Deer Hunting Opener. This will be Pawlenty's last deer opener as governor, a tradition he started in 2003 that has raised thousands of dollars for Minnesota wildlife habitat and conservation projects.

For non-hunters, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied this weekend as well. The 34th annual FOCUS Bazaar will be held on Saturday at the Perham Area Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The In Their Own Words (ITOW) Veterans Museum in Perham is hosting the Rags to Riches fashion show on Saturday, and the one-man play "The Mushroom Picker" on Sunday.

In Detroit Lakes, the Holmes Theater is hosting the Deer Hunting Weekend Comedy Show on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
