NY Mills residents injured in Labor Day crash

Two New York Mills residents were transported to Lake Region Hospital Monday for injuries sustained in a three-vehicle collision.

Mark Bostad, 50, of NY Mills was driving his 1994 Dodge Dakota Pickup on Hwy 35 around 6:30 p.m. when his vehicle was struck by a car that had just been hit by another vehicle while attempting to cross the highway.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, Timothy Peterson, 44, of Fergus Falls was traveling west on Hwy 18 when he failed to stop at the intersection of Hwy 18 and Hwy 35, causing his 2004 Ford Expedition to hit a vehicle traveling south. The vehicle that was hit, a 2009 Toyota Yaris, driven by Jenae Walwick, 25, of New Germany, Minn., then skidded down the road and collided with Bostad's truck.

Peterson said sun had obstructed his vision.

Walwick and her passenger, Shawn Walwick, 26, of New Germany, were extricated from the vehicle by Underwood Fire and Rescue. Both were airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo for serious injuries.

Bostad's truck sustained damage in the front and rear. Martha Bolstad, 43, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken by ambulance, along with Mark, to the hospital in Fergus Falls. They both were treated for injuries to the face and chest.

A dog in Walwick's vehicle was also injured; it was taken to Lakes Vet Center in Battle Lake.
