Leona Tingelstad

Leona Tingelstad, 82, of rural Detroit Lakes, died on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at her home.

Leona Priem was born the daughter of Walter and Alice (Johnson) Priem on May 23, 1925 in Dunn Township, near Vergas. She was baptized Nov. 8, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, and was confirmed April 20, 1958, also at Zion Lutheran Church. She attended school at District 149 in Dunn Township.

On Oct. 7, 1943, Leona married Milan Tingelstad in South Dakota. Leona was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. She served on the school board for District 146 and worked odd jobs, cleaning cabins, painting and staining. She also worked at the Graystone Hotel in Detroit Lakes. Her hobbies included sewing, flower gardening, picking raspberries and making maple syrup.

Surviving Leona are her husband, Milan; three sons, Gary (JoAnn) Tingelstad of Detroit Lakes, Roger (Sandy) Tingelstad of Pelican Rapids and Harlan (Betty) Tingelstad, also of Pelican Rapids; one daughter, Cheryl Thorson of Erhard; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Early of Detroit Lakes; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Priem of Fergus Falls.

Preceding Leona in death were her parents; one son, Myron; siblings Gen Craft, Lillian Wischnak, Beverly Moreson, Delano Priem, Jerome Priem, Gordon Priem and two infant siblings; and one son-in-law, Marcus Thorson.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the start of services Wednesday at the church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, with the Rev. Dale Pepelnjak and Intern Pastor Mary Marotte officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids. Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, was entrusted with arrangements. An online guest book is available at
